2009/10 Predictions

Written by: Tony Martin

Well, there are only 81 days until the first pre season game, and boy, I can't wait. As a fan of a team that hasn't won a championship in over 17 years and has only been in the playoffs 4 times since then, I find myself always saying, "This is the year", and making predictions of a 13-3 record, but it hasn't happened yet. The best record the Redskins have posted in a season since their 14-2 season in 1991 is 10-6, which they have done only twice.

This season will start with uncertainty at both the Quarterback position and the Head Coaching job, not for 2009, but for 2010. This is the last year of Jason Campbell's contract, and with the trade proposal for Jay Cutler that didn't happen, the rumors of Mark Sanchez being the guy management wanted, what are the odds that Campbell would want to return for the 2010 season?

Coach Jim Zorn is most likely in his last season as head coach of the Redskins. With Campbell leading the team to a great season, it won't be enough to save Zorn's job with the likes of Mike Shannahan, Gruden and even possibly Bill Cower available. There have been 6 Head Coaches since Snyder has taken ownership, and that includes 4 years of Gibbs part II. It seems that he gets bored rather quickly.

Prediction 1: Jason Campbell throws for over 3,800 yards, 25 Touchdowns and leads the Redskins to their best season in 18 years. Following his breakout season, he signs a big money deal somewhere other than Washington.

Prediction 2: Coach Zorn will have a winning record and make the post season, but he will not return in 2010, due to the fact that Mr. Snyder's ego will need to have the big name coach that will temporarily fulfill his needs, ie. Marty Schottenheimer.

Prediction 3: Redskins go 13-3 in 2009, having home field advantage throughout the playoffs, winning the NFC crown, and going on to win Super Bowl XLIV, defeating Norv Turner's Chargers, in a lop sided victory. I know, I know, a boy can dream, can't he?
